TOP SUMMER HAIR TIPS

20130819-202748.jpg
This sizzling summer heat can give you a plethora of problems – skin, hair and other health issues. With the mercury soaring to 45 degree Celsius, this is the season where you need to be more conscious about your eating habits calling for a change in diet and other healthy living tips.

And yes, hair problem is one of the most common health issues that almost every women face during this extreme hot season. Heat is the most harmful thing for hair as experts say, your locks suffer damage even more than your skin as a result of high temperature.

Here are some best summer hair care tips for you girls.

-Always go out with your head covered with a scarf, hat or umbrella to avoid direct exposure of hair to sun. Effects of direct sun rays on hair can be harsh in many ways. Exposing your hair for even 10 minutes produce 70-80 degrees Celsius heat and this can crack your cuticle. It can also harm your hair’s outer structure, suck out moisture and can even burn your scalp.

-Use right shampoo and conditioner according to your hair type. It is always safe to go for mild or herbal shampoos during this season as you need to wash your hair frequently. Experts also suggest using products that contain sunscreen.

-Serum is very necessary as it acts as a sunscreen for your hair. Your hair becomes dry and dull losing its moisture during this time of year; hence, hair serum is the perfect way to protect them from heat-related damage.

-Try massaging your scalp every day for a few minutes to stimulate circulation and to remove dead skin cells. This will also help in preventing dandruff.

-Oiling your strands before washing from roots to tips is a magical antidote to several hair problems from lifeless tresses, damaged ends to stress relief. Hot oil massage is considered to be a perfect solution to people with dry scalp condition.

-Wash your locks with lukewarm water. However, some people put ice in the water to make it cold which is wrong. Water temperature should neither be too hot nor too cold; it should be balanced.

-Comb (preferably wide toothed comb) your hair at least 4 times a day to get rid of dust particles.

-Treating dandruff: Wash your hair every alternate day. Grab any good anti-dandruff shampoo to wash your locks, but use it only once or twice a week to avoid dryness. Exposure to sun and sweat is the main cause of dandruff during summers. It is best to avoid exposure to sun and keep your scalp clean, dry and cool.

-Have regular trims to avoid split ends. Trim your hair while it is dry and avoid wet trimming as this can worsen the condition. Experts often advise to keep hairs short during this season.

Above all, a well-balanced diet is the key to keeping your hair healthy and strong. Eat lots of fruit and vegetables, nuts, brown rice, beans and pulses to have those healthy and lustrous tresses. Also, drink plenty of water.

TOP BEAUTY TIPS

20130818-222551.jpg

If you want to be on top of your beauty routine then look no further, I have done hours of research to gather the most effective beauty tips.

• Eye Cream Is Great For Cuticles Instead of spending money on cuticle cream, you can use extra-moisturizing and hydrating eye cream to cure dry cuticles.

• Stop Your Hair Colour From Fading If you’ve just had your hair dyed, the last thing you want is for the colour to fade. One surefire way to prevent such a mishap from happening? Use a deep-conditioning treatment once a month. This will help lock in colour and has the added benefit of staving off dry and damaged locks.

• Avoid Overly Rosy Cheeks Giving yourself a natural glow avec blush is an in look for spring. But you’ll want to avoid brushing on too much (lest you look like a clown). So always start your blush line two finger widths away from your nose and only apply it on the apples of your cheeks. This will ensure you create a natural glow without going overboard.

• Give Curls Bounce Never brush curls out with a brush. Instead, loosen them with your fingers. This will give curls added lift without flattening them down.

• Add Oomph To Cheekbones To make your cheekbones appear higher and to give them more structure, apply bronzer directly under the cheekbone. You can also add highlighter to the cheekbone itself (under a thin layer of blush).

• Give Hair Lift Before you start blow drying your hair, add a volumizing spray to your roots. This will give your locks some added lift.

• Create Fuller Lips If you’re sick of having thin, pursed puckers, extend your lip line using a neutral-toned lip liner. Then apply lipstick over top. Be careful though — don’t extend your lip line too much.

• Nix Flaky Mascara One of the main reasons mascara will flake onto your face after you apply it is because it’s old. Opt for a new container and always remember to keep your mascara tube tightly sealed.

• Dry Out Pimples Believe it or not, dabbing toothpaste onto a pimple is a quick and easy way to dry it out.

• Don’t Believe Beauty Labels Some beauty labels actually display false information, so don’t believe everything you read. If a product promises instant results or all-day protection, it may be too good to be true.

• Banish Oil The fastest way to clear your skin of any oily breakout, especially in the summer, is to use blotting papers. They’ll clean up the excess oil on your epidermis and will prevent breakouts.

• Use Oil On Your Skin.. Even If It’s Already Oily This probably sounds crazy, but using an oil-based product to remove makeup or excess dirt from your skin can actually improve your epidermis’ condition. Why? Over-cleaning stimulates the sebum glands, which causes skin to over-produce oil. Using oil-based products will have the opposite effect.

• You Can Use Exfoliator Daily Exfoliation is an important and easy way to buff away the dead skin cells that cover up your skin’s natural glow. Use a light exfoliator, like the Daily Microfoliant from Dermalogica, to freshen your face daily.

• If You Have Greasy Hair… Avoid applying conditioner directly to your hair’s roots — just apply the heavy moisturizing cream to your locks’ ends.

• Clean Your Makeup Tools Whether you use a razor, a Q-tip or a powder brush, make sure to clean your beauty tools. After even a couple uses, they become breeding grounds for bacteria, which can cause breakouts, eczema and many other skin conditions.

• Remove Nail Polish Without Remover If you run out of nail polish remover, you can remove cracked or chipped nail polish by applying a clear top coat to the nail and removing it promptly with a cotton ball.

• Change It Up Our skin craves different things depending on the time of year. So change up your beauty routine based on the seasons. In the winter, add more moisturizing creams to your daily beauty list. In summer, ensure you’re using lots of SPF.

• Apply Bronzer Evenly Before applying bronzer or self-tanning lotion, mix a drop or two of the solution with moisture cream. Blend using your finger or a Q-tip then apply to skin as you would regular moisturizer. This will ensure the cream blends in — and covers skin — evenly.

• Hide Split Ends To make split ends less noticeable, apply a heavy hair repair cream to lock in moisture before and after using a flat iron or a blow-dryer.

• Lock It In When using cream-based beauty products — like lipstick or foundation — apply a dry face powder on top to seal in your look. This also works for blush (apply a cream blush to cheeks, then top with a dry blush).

• Find Your Shade When choosing a foundation, test a product on the skin near your jawline. And be sure to do it in natural light. This will ensure the foundation tone you choose for your face isn’t too different from the natural shade of your neck.

• Stop Taking Supplements It’s true the healthier you are, the healthier your skin and hair will be. But popping supplements without discussing them with your doctor can do more harm than good. Why? Because mixing certain vitamins and minerals can have the opposite effect of what you’re hoping. Talk to your doc before popping any pills.

• Using Eyeshadow Primer Primer is a great tool that will help you lock your makeup look in place. But adding too much of it on areas of your face where you won’t actually apply colour will actually detract from the look you’re going for (mostly because primers are brighter in tone than most makeup shades).

• Apply Mascara To Fake Lashes This will help fake lashes blend in a bit more seamlessly with your natural ones.

• Clarify Your Hair In order to remove product build-up from locks, use a clarifying shampoo once a week. This will also help prevent dandruff and other annoying hair/scalp conditions.

• Cut Back On Pedicures Save money on your beauty routine by taking care of your feet on a daily basis. Simply scrub your foot with a pumice stone each morning in the shower. Once you step out and dry off, apply a moisture cream to your feet. This will increase the amount of time you can go without a pedicure and will keep your toes healthy and fungus-free.

• Replace Old Products Regularly The effectiveness of products — not to mention the amount of bacteria they breed — wares after only a few months. Ditch old items and replace them with new ones.

• Treat Ingrown Hairs Apply a product containing azulene or witch hazel to help reduce the swelling and redness that’s associated with ingrown hairs. From there, coax the ingrown hair from its location with a pair of tweezers (don’t pull it out, though — this will only make the ingrown hair regrow in in the same way later).

• Nix Post-Shaving Redness Shave your face, legs or underarms in the shower after standing under warm water for a few minutes. This will help open up hair follicles and will soften hairs so they’re less coarse to shave.

• Soften Skin Immediately after stepping out of a shower, pool or lake/ocean, apply some sort of cream to skin. Water washes away the skin’s natural oils and applying moisture cream will prevent skin chapping.

Enjoying my time in AMESTERDAM :D

La laalalala oh the joys of being in a different country:)! So far I’ve been in Amesterdam for 4 days, before that I was in Paris and Brussels for a week, the reason for this was that the coach stopped at these two destinations so I thought “Ay, why not make the most of it”. Being in Amesterdam is amazing, I even got my very own “I love Amesterdam” T-Shirt:D Yipppee. Yesterday we went into the town square which was packed with tourists and Weed smokers (Shops even sold Cannabis lollipops)

20130818-173840.jpg
It was so beautiful despite the unpleasant smells;) It was honestly like a never ending carnival of fun. And I must say I wasn’t expecting Amesterdam to be like it turned out. Here are a couple more pictures when we got of the train and the scenery pictures I took.

I honestly think that Amesterdam is an underrated city! If you ever get the chance please visit:D This other picture is of a little boy who I think is honestly so brave holding a pigeon:O! I would guess he’s about 4 or 5 years old.

20130818-175134.jpg

20130818-175205.jpg

Then my friend spotted an interesting looking museum, Which I was not going to be visiting any time soon;) Maybe next time when I have less dignity and more guts 😛

20130818-175452.jpg
Then in the evening we got incredibly hungry because we skipped breakfast (bad choice), all the fast food restaurants were full but then we found an amazing restaurant which was also cheap I had a full meal for €11

20130818-175712.jpg
And the last picture will of course be -my Amesterdam Shirt which I got for €7, I think it’s incredibly unhealthy to be this excited over a shirt… But then again it’s from Amesterdam so it seems legit;) Yes I do realise it needs ironing but I got it yesterday and haven’t brought it out of the bag until now:)

And now I shall get back to enjoying the rest of Holland:)

Second Liebster Nomination

I’ve been nominated Twice for a Liebster Award (Check older posts), so I thought that every time I’m nominated I will make a new post that will include, the nominees I’ve chosen, the blogger who nominated me, the questions that I have been given, and the questions that I will give,( Am I the only one who feels like that was a mouthful?)

Thank you Dani for nominating me!

Questions that I have been given:

1: Do you wear makeup every day?
Actually I don’t:)! I’m gonna blow my own trumpet and say that Im proud that I don’t wear makeup every day because I know that feeling you get when you walk past a mirror and your reflection literally scares the *Colourful language* out of you

2: How much would you say you spend on beauty or fashion every month?
Hmmm I have no idea, bare with me while I guesstimate….. Roughly around £50 to £100

3: How would you define your style?
Im the kind of girl who was a hardcore tomboy at 11 years who then transformed into a preppy chick;), but I honestly wear anything that will look good or edgy. So one day I’ll be wearing a vintage jumpsuit with wedged high tops, and the next Ill be wearing disco pants and crop tops

4: What product could you absolutely not live without? My life would be an endless void of emptiness without the ‘Simple Moisturising Face Wash’

5: Do you have a favorite brand of makeup? Of course I do;) MAC
L’oreal
Urban Decay
Chanel
NARS
SMASHBOX

6: How did you first get into beauty or fashion? I remember watching YouTube beauty guru’s and thinking ‘Hey I’d like to do that’ but I was very skeptical about sitting in front of a camera and talking.. So I decided to do blogging. Which wasn’t as easy as I thought, I made and deleted blogs, and I honestly didn’t have anything to hold on too. So I quit .. Then my cousin came to visit and he set it all up for me, and I finally had the willpower to carry on. So I’m very thankful for his contribution or else I wouldn’t be here today:)

7: When did you first start blogging about beauty or fashion? Hmmm I’ll have to check…. April 2 2013. Pretty recent, it’s strange because it feels like I’ve been blogging for a year:O

8: Do you have a go-to makeup look, & what is it?
I do, it’s very simple
Studio Finish SPF 15 concealer – In shade NW20
SMASHBOX 15 hours wear Hydrating Foundation
L’oreal Waterproof Jet black Liquid Eyeliner
Rimmel London Scandal Eye in Black
*NOTE* If you want to achieve the natural look then stick to foundations that match your skin tone, instead of going one shade lighter or darker. Also when applying the eyeliner make sure that you don’t make it too thick, if you want to add cat flicks then make ’em thin.. You got it? Good:)

9: What does your daily beauty routine look like?
Here’s a list of things that I would normally wear:
Studio Finish SPF 15 concealer
SMASHBOX 15 hours wear Hydrating Foundation
Maybellin Gel Eyeliner- Jet black
Eylure Girls aloud False Lashes
MAC lipstick in Russian Red
NARS Powder Blush – Amour

10: Where is your favorite place to shop? I tend to shop in every shop, if I see something nice ill buy it regardless whether the shop is ZARA or Primark . But I mostly shop at:
Urban Outfitters
CULT
TopShop
Republic
And good old Primark ❤

The Bloggers I will be nominating are:
Cailync
Carmzwong
SooLastYear
A Little Bit Of Girl Geekery
Hunt The Moment
Silverkis World
Capturing Capacity
Fashion Vent
PixFav
Love Letters to Beauty

Questions For The Nominees

1: When will you stop wearing Makeup?
2: At what age should someone start wearing makeup?
3: If someone could tell you the exact day and time that you are going to die, would you want them to tell you?
4: Joy is found with simple awareness. What does your joy look like today?
5: If your life was a novel, what would be the title and how would your story end?
6: Blush or Bronzer?
7: What’s the difference between ‘living’ and ‘existing?’
8: What has the little voice in your head been saying lately?
9: Would you rather have hair everywhere or no hair at all?
10: How did you start blogging and why?
– I tried to put in a couple of questions which involve deep thinking:)

“The Best Way Out Is Always Through”

Allure 2013 Beauty Must haves!

Maybelline New York Baby Lips in Peach Kiss

WHAT IT IS:
A moisturizing apricot-nude lip balm with sunscreen

HOW IT LOOKS/FEELS:
The sheer, peachy nude lip balm has very subtle shimmer; it feels incredibly hydrating on lips.

WHY WE LIKE IT:
Not too glossy, not too shimmery, the creamy balm soothes chapped lips while a pearly quality makes them look slightly plumper. The addition of SPF 20 is a nice touch.

20130818-023117.jpg

M.A.C. Tinted Lipglass in Nymphette

WHAT IT IS:
A shimmery rose-gold lip gloss

HOW IT LOOKS/FEELS:
The shiny gloss is flecked with superfine gold metallic shimmer and feels sticky on lips.

WHY WE LIKE IT:
The neutral shade works on any skin tone, but the rosy flush and subtle shimmer lend an ethereal, sun-kissed quality that’s especially pretty on fair types. Just don’t wear it with your hair down on a breezy day, or you’ll have major attachment issues.

20130818-023737.jpg

Crest 3D White Glamorous White Toothpaste

WHAT IT IS:
A whitening toothpaste

WHAT IT DOES:
Removes surface stains for whiter teeth over time, fights cavities and tartar, and freshens breath

KEY INGREDIENTS:
Sodium fluoride (fights cavities); hydrated silica (removes stains)

HOW IT FEELS/SMELLS/LOOKS:
The refreshingly minty paste has a gel-like texture.

WHY I LIKE IT:
In just a few days, it removes surface discoloration (think coffee and wine stains) and covers the basics of cavity protection and fresh breath. Teeth look noticeably whiter (and with a nice gleam) after a few weeks. But the overachieving toothpaste might irritate those with sensitive teeth.

20130818-023912.jpg

Benefit Boi-ing Industrial-Strength Concealer

WHAT IT IS:
A highly pigmented concealer that comes in three shades (light, medium, and deep)

HOW IT LOOKS/FEELS:
Goes on creamy and not too dense

WHY WE LIKE IT:
With its yellow base, this formula masterfully covers dark undereye circles without settling into fine lines. When applied in a few layers, it can mask minor blemishes.

Monthly BeautyBox Review

Monthly BeautyBox Review

This is my all time favourite conditioner, so while I have already tried it out, I’m super happy to add this to my stash for use in the future. If you’re interested in this product, you can check out my review here.

Full Size: £12.95 for 200ml
Sample Size: 200ml
Value: £12.95
Neal and Wolf Elevate

This is another product I have tried but have yet to review, as I don’t blow dry my hair very often (therefore have barely made a dent in my other bottle) I will likely pass this onto Hayley, as I’m sure she’ll enjoy using it.

Full Size: £11.95 for 200ml
Sample Size: 200ml
Value: £11.95
Pukka Radiance Serum

This is a product I’ve never come across before, but it is described as a wonder serum that will leave your skin feeling fresh and bright, which is gently fragranced with sandalwood. It claims to be suitable for all skin types, even the most sensitive so hopefully this will be perfect for me.

Full Size: £32 for 50ml
Sample Size: 50ml
Value: £6.40
Art Deco Soft Kajal Liner

Art Deco are a brand I’ve wanted to check out after seeing the Dita Von Teese collection when I went to Munich just before Christmas, but as stuff was quite pricey I decided not to pick anything up, so having two items in this box pretty much made my day, especially as I go through eyeliner like it’s going out of fashion, and in my opinion you can never have too much!

Full Size: £6.75 for 1.4g
Sample Size: 1.4g
Value: £6.75
Art Deco Shadow Base

Again, another product I’m extremely excited to try. I don’t feel like the Urban Decay Primer Potion likes me very much, so it’ll be interesting to try an alternative. I like the little pot that this comes in too, it’s much more handbag friendly!

Full Size: £8 for 5ml
Sample Size: 5ml
Value: £8

Overall I am super happy with this box, and I enjoy that it covers all bases, with make-up, skincare and haircare. For £10 a month (plus postage) this is an absolute bargain for some amazing quality, full sized products!

Will you be picking this box up this month? For more info, check out their website http://beautecobox.co.uk/

Body Shop Mango and strawberry mist

Every since hearing about the BodyShop Fruit Mist collection, I’ve been dying to hunt them down and try them! There are 8 scents available – Coconut, Mango, Moringa, Pink Grapefruit, Satsuma, Shea, Strawberry and Vanilla.  I initially went in thinking I wanted all the fruity scents, but was much more restrained and just picked up two – Strawberry and Mango.

The body mists themselves are a generous 100ml size which is pretty reasonable for £7.  The scents are very simple – definitely strawberry and definitely mango! There’s no messing about with these.  They’re fresh and light and right up my street!  Once sprayed on the smell lasts for several hours and is very delicate on the skin – not overkill at all
